MAJ Alex J Longo

Major Alex J. Longo grew up in Houston, Texas. In 2000, he graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Radio-Television Production. In May of 2003, he enlisted in the United States Army as a 96D Imagery Analyst. His first assignment was with the 302nd Military Intelligence Battalion, a tactical intelligence unit based in Germany. In October 2005, Sergeant Longo deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom serving under the Multi-National Corps Iraq (MNC-I) Imagery Intelligence cell in Baghdad. Later he was reassigned as the Imagery Intelligence Chief for Task Force Phantom in Kirkuk, Iraq; redeploying in 2006. He left active duty in 2007, and joined America’s Army Reserve in 2008.

In 2009, he received a direct commission as a Second Lieutenant, Military Intelligence branch, in the Army Reserve. He then served as the S6 and later the S2 for the 451st Civil Affairs Battalion. In 2011 he was aide-de-camp to the Commanding General of the 75th Mission Command Training Division (Southern Division). In 2012 he was mobilized with the 311th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) based in Los Angeles, CA and deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2012-2013. Upon redeployment, he served as a Team Chief and later HHC Commander for the 451st Civil Affairs Battalion.

In 2016, he returned to active duty as an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) Officer assigned to Leavenworth, Kansas serving as an Intelligence Officer for Detachment 5, 3100th Strategic Intelligence Group (SIG). He then served as an Operations Officer in Current Operations (CUOPS) at US Army Reserve Headquarters at Fort Bragg, NC before joining the Rocky Top Battalion cadre in 2020.

His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (2 OLC), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with mobilization device and ten-year numeral), Operation Iraqi Freedom Service Medal (2 stars), Operation Enduring Freedom Service Medal (1 star), Overseas Service Ribbon (third award), Meritorious Unit Commendation (1 OLC), and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge in Gold.

Major Longo is a father of two: Liam and Maggie who reside in Houston, Texas.
