ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships

The Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps scholarship benefit package covers full tuition and mandatory fees at all of our participating schools. In addition to tuition and mandatory fees, the student is provided a book allowance of $1200 per year, (to be divided equally between semesters or quarters depending on the school’s system), and a generous tiered stipend.

Stipend

All scholarship or contracted cadets are entitled to a stipend (subsistence allowance) authorized by law. The stipend is $420 a month during the academic year only.

High School ROTC Scholarship (4-year and 3-year advanced designee)

This scholarship type is awarded to high school seniors who will soon graduate or obtain an equivalent certificate. Competition for these scholarships is keen, as over 6000 students from across the country compete for them. Scholarships pay for full tuition and mandatory fees, for both resident and non-resident students. Scholarship awardees also receive a book allowance and a monthly tax-free stipend to defray the cost of living.

There are two types of high school scholarships: 4-year and 3-year Advanced Designee. 3-year Advanced Designee scholarship winners must satisfactorily participate in Army ROTC their freshmen year in order for their 3-year scholarship to take effect at the beginning of their sophomore year.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

• Be a U.S. citizen
• Be between the ages of 17 and 26
• Have a high school GPA of at least 2.50
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent
• Meet physical standards
• Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (Army Reserve or Army National Guard)

Those applicants advancing to further scholarship consideration are scheduled for a medical examination and a personal interview.

Personal Interview

This interview in person any travel to and from the interview is at your own expense.

Medical Examination

Individuals selected for an interview will be contacted and scheduled for a medical examination by the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB). Your medical condition is not a consideration in the selection of winners; however, all winners must be medically qualified and enrolled to receive scholarship benefits. Travel to and from examination is at your own expense.

Military Obligation

If you are selected for a ROTC Scholarship, you are required to:

• Sign a contract with the Secretary of the Army.
• Attend the 4-week Advanced Camp between your Junior and Senior Year.
• Accept a Commission to serve on Army active duty, National Guard, or Army Reserves upon degree completion.
• Serve in the military for a period of 8 years. This may be fulfilled by one of the following:
  1. Serving active duty, if selected, for 4 years followed by 4 years of service in the Inactive Ready Reserve(IRR)/National Guard/Army Reserves. You may elect to serve 8 years or longer on active duty, but only the first 4 are required. Terms of obligation begin at the time of commissioning.
  2. Serve 8 years in the National Guard/Army Reserves,that includes a 3-6 month active duty term for initial training. Terms of obligation begin at time of commissioning.

Campus-based Scholarships (2-3 years)

Campus based scholarships are offered to students who were not offered or did not apply for the High School ROTC Scholarship or Green to Gold program. These scholarships are extremely limited and may range in length from 2-3 years. Scholarships pay for full tuition and mandatory fees, for both resident and non-resident students. Scholarship awardees also receive a book allowance and a tax-free monthly stipend to defray the cost of living.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must not reach 31 years of age by 31 December of the year you will graduate from college
• If you are taking or have taken college courses you must be considered an academic sophomore for the 3-Year and an academic junior for the 2-year Scholarship, and have the same number of years remaining for a baccalaureate degree upon enrollment
• Have a minimum college GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
• Satisfactory explain any record of arrest and/or civil conviction
• Have no moral or personal conviction against bearing arms or supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States

Basic Camp Scholarship

You attend school in hopes of one day attaining the all-important college degree. But do you ever find yourself thirsting for more? Are you seeking additional challenges? Do you have other aspirations? Are you among the upper echelon – the elite – the select few that have the ability and drive to become leaders? Examples of others who have chosen this very path are all around you. They are your peers. They are Army ROTC Cadets – and you can join the by attending the Basic Camp (BC). BC scholarships are extremely competitive and are subject to available funds. BC scholarships are not guaranteed upon successful completion of BC.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal U.S. resident.
• Be between 17 and 28 years old.
• Be enrolled in college full time in pursuit of a baccalaureate or advanced degree and have at least two years of school remaining or be sponsored to attend Basic Camp by a military junior college (MJC)
• Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
• Meet military medical qualification standards.
• Have no civil convictions (unless waiver is approved).
• Have no more than three dependents (unless waiver is approved).

Green-to-Gold Scholarship

The Green to Gold program provides selected active duty enlisted members of the Army an opportunity to complete their baccalaureate degree requirements and obtain a commission through participation in the ROTC program. If you are currently on active duty and are accepted by a college or university, then you can compete for a Green to Gold scholarship. There are a variety of Green to Gold Scholarships that range widely in length and type of benefits.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

• U.S. Citizen (non-waiverable)
• Age – Be under 30 years of age on 31 December of the year you complete all requirements for a commission and a college baccalaureate degree. This is a statutory requirement and there are no waivers authorized.
• Cannot have been convicted of a Domestic Violence Crime
• Have a minimum of 2 years Active Duty as well as 3 months of active duty for every one month of specialized training (waiver can be requested)
• GT score of 110 or greater
• Pass the APFT within the last 6 months with score of 180 or higher, minimum of 60 points in each event
• Be a High School Graduate or equivalent
• Cumulative High School or College GPA of 2.5
• Letter of Acceptance to School of Choice offering Army ROTC
• Letter of Acceptance from the Professor of Military Science of that Army ROTC Battalion
• Favorable National Agency Check (or have initiated the action)
• DODMERB Medical Qualification
• Be eligible to Re-enlist
• Not be a conscientious objector
• No more than 3 dependents including spouse (waiverable)

Guaranteed Reserve Force Duty Scholarship

The GRFD program is designed for cadets who are interested in obtaining a commission in the U.S. Army Reserves or National Guard with a guarantee for a reserve component assignment. Scholarships cover full tuition and mandatory fees, and range in length up to 3 years. Scholarship awardees also receive a book allowance and a monthly stipend. These Cadets also receive weekend drill and annual training pay as participants in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). Cadets receiving a GRFD must commission into a Reserve Component.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must not reach 31 years of age by 31 December of the year you will graduate from college
• Have a minimum High school GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
• Satisfactory explain any record of arrest and/or civil conviction
• Have no moral or personal conviction against bearing arms or supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States
• Must complete the ROTC Basic Course requirements or Basic Training
• Must be willing to participate in the SMP program with a Guard or Reserve unit. If you do not belong to a unit, you must obtain a letter of acceptance to the unit, stating that they will accept you as a SMP cadet.
• Must be medically qualified

Military Obligation

If you are selected for a GRFD scholarship, you are required to sign a GRFD contract, guaranteeing service in the National Guard or U.S. Army Reserve upon commissioning.

• Serve 8 years in a National Guard or Reserve unit that includes 3-6 months active duty for initial training. Terms of obligation begins at time of commissioning.
• Attend the 5-week Advanced Camp between the Junior and Senior year.
• Accept a commission to serve in the National Guard or Reserve upon degree completion.
• Serve as a SMP cadet in the unit of your choice with an available SMP slot.

Dedicated Army National Guard and Army Reserve Scholarship

This scholarship is specific to those students who wish to serve in the National Guard or Army Reserve upon commissioning. These scholarships cover full tuition and mandatory fees. Scholarship awardees also receive a book allowance and a monthly stipend. Scholarships can be awarded in increments up to three years. These cadets also receive weekend drill and annual training pay as participants in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP).

Basic Eligibility Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must not reach 31 years of age by 31 December of the year you will graduate from college
• Have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
• Satisfactory explain any record of arrest and/or civil conviction
• Have no moral or personal conviction against bearing arms or supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States
• Must complete the ROTC Basic Course requirements or Basic Training.
• Must be willing to participate in the SMP program with the National Guard. If you do not belong to a unit, you must obtain a letter of acceptance to the unit, stating that they will accept you as a SMP cadet.
• Must be medically qualified

If you are selected for a ARNG or AR scholarship, you are required to:

• Sign a contract guaranteeing service in the National Guard or Army Reserve upon commissioning.
• Serve 8 years in the National Guard or Army Reserve which includes 3-6 months active duty for initial training. Terms of obligation begins at time of commissioning.
• Attend the 5-week Advanced Camp between the Junior and Senior year.
• Serve as a SMP cadet in the unit of your choice with an available SMP slot.
